Student Empowerment for Environmental Development (SEED)

SEED is an initiative which encourages students to appreciate nature and work towards preserving it. The SEED unit of JJMMS HSS, Yendayar started functioning in 2011-12 academic year with the motto, “Social Welfare through students”

The various activities of the club include environmental protection, conservation of water, energy and other natural resources.

SEED is successful in sensitizing students in issues relating to environmental degradation. It encourages its members to be pro-activists towards sustainable development in their given milieu.

The members of SEED are a dedicated group of students who are not there to wear to badge or get an extra tick on the report card.

This year our unit also venture into practicing organic gardening and implementing the techniques for the beautification of the school campus and thus, promote the use of Eco-friendly products. Photo exhibitions, anti drug campaigns, seminars, and health preservation workshop were conducted.

The unit of SEED at JJMMHSS Yendayar was selected as one of the best units in the Educational district of Kanjirapally and got special Jury Award in the academic years 2011-12 and 2012-13. Our SEED unit is being co-ordinated by Sri. Suresh K.V., HSST Geography.

This will be achieved through teamwork and innovative methods logios employing opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.

About

J.J. Murphy Memorial Higher Secondary School, Yendayar was established in the name of Sri. John Joseph Murphy (1872-1957), one of the most successful individual Irish planters in India. The school was founded in 1982 by Sri. Michael A Kallivayalil, an entrepreneur, philanthropist and a visionary.

Sri. Joseph M Kallivayalil is the Chairman of the J.J.Murphy Memorial Higher secondary School Trust. When the trust started the school at Yendayar, no other educational institution was available for the children in and around this area. The objective of this initiative was to impart quality education to the ordinary children belonging to poor uneducated parents and workers in the hilly areas locally known as High Range. The school was the fulfillment of a long felt need of this region.It is aided by the Government of Kerala and a non profit organization by all means.
