J.J.Murphy Memorial Higher Secondary School: National Service Scheme, NSS

National Service Scheme, NSS is a voluntary organization intended for personality development through social service. It was introduced in J.J.M.M. H.S.S. Yendayar in 2001 and since then it has developed through, the hands of the talented and enthusiastic programme officers. Sri. Varghese E.T. was the first programme officer. Sri. Alby Anto, Sri. Bince Joseph and Sri. Sebastian A.J. were the succeeding programme officers.

The NSS unit of the School has attracted social recognition and a number of awards. In 2006 N.S.S. unit of the School has won the prestigious award – The Best N.S.S. Unit in Kerala – and Sri. Albi Anto of the School become the best programme officer in the state.

Sri. Abhilas P Vettom (HSST. Jr. Commerce) is the present NSS programme officer.
The N.S.S. unit is in the forefront of the social service in the village of Yendayar, truly conforming to its motto “Not me but you”.
Our NSS unit has a strength of 100 students.
NSS organizes a 7 days residential camp every year during Onam or Christmas vacation.

To encourage higher education among the economically weak and socially backward sections of the community, irrespective of caste and creed.

To enable the students to contribute to the evolution and practice of sustainable development.

This will be achieved through teamwork and innovative methods logios employing opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.

About

J.J. Murphy Memorial Higher Secondary School, Yendayar was established in the name of Sri. John Joseph Murphy (1872-1957), one of the most successful individual Irish planters in India. The school was founded in 1982 by Sri. Michael A Kallivayalil, an entrepreneur, philanthropist and a visionary.

Sri. Joseph M Kallivayalil is the Chairman of the J.J.Murphy Memorial Higher secondary School Trust. When the trust started the school at Yendayar, no other educational institution was available for the children in and around this area. The objective of this initiative was to impart quality education to the ordinary children belonging to poor uneducated parents and workers in the hilly areas locally known as High Range. The school was the fulfillment of a long felt need of this region.It is aided by the Government of Kerala and a non profit organization by all means.
